Description

Château Pontet-Canet is a renowned winery in the Pauillac appellation of Bordeaux, France, classified as a Fifth Growth (Cinquièmes Crus) in the 1855 Bordeaux Classification, known for its high-quality, long-aging wines produced using certified organic and biodynamic viticulture methods. Owned by the Tesseron family since 1975, who are credited with significantly improving the wine’s quality. The estate employs certified organic and biodynamic practices, and even uses a team of working horses in the vineyards, which contributes to the wine’s depth and silky tannins. The vineyard is predominantly planted with Cabernet Sauvignon (around 62%), followed by Merlot (32%), Cabernet Franc, and Petit Verdot. Grapes from each of the approximately one hundred plots are vinified separately. The wine is aged in a combination of new French oak barrels and concrete amphorae made from the same limestone bedrock found in the vineyard.
  • Tasting Profile: The wines are typically full-bodied with a classic tannic structure, offering aromas and flavors of blackcurrant, dark fruit, cedar, violet, and graphite, with notable freshness and purity. They are known for their potential for long-term cellaring.
